Summary of Exodus 35
Exodus chapter 35 begins with Moses getting the people of Israel together and reminding them of God’s order of keeping the Sabbath. He calls upon the people to bring voluntary offerings to build the tabernacle and invites them to get skilled workers to complete the task.
Moses gets the whole congregation of Israel together and shares the message from the Lord. He reminds them that they are to work for six days and leave the seventh day as a holy Sabbath and a day of rest. Any person found working on the Sabbath is to be put to death.
The reminder is important since the work of building the tabernacle is about to begin. The people of Israel must not use the task as an excuse to ignore or violate the Sabbath. Moses reminds them that they must not light a fire on the Sabbath day.
Moses calls upon the people of Israel to bring an offering to the Lord. The voluntary gifts will be used to supplement their offerings to complete the task of building the tabernacle.
The people are to bring gold, silver, and brass, blue, purple, and scarlet materials, fine linen and goat’s hair, animal skins, acacia wood, oil for the lamps, spices for the anointing oil and incense, and precious stones.
The Israelites are to present their offerings to the Lord since they have willingly chosen to take part in the venture, and they do so enthusiastically. Moses reminds the people of skill to get involved and make everything God requires.
The Israelites respond enthusiastically to Moses’ call and bring their jewelry and gold offering to the tabernacle construction. The people who have blue, purple, and scarlet materials and fine linen, goat’s hair, and other offerings present them willingly.
The people are also willing to give silver, brass, wood, and precious stones for the construction of the tabernacle. Any person with oil and spices is expected to give generously to the venture.
In the next verse, the chapter talks about the women who have the ability to spin and use their skills to make fine linen and goat’s hair. Skilled people use their talents to contribute to the construction of the tabernacle.
The leaders of the people bring valuable minerals and precious stones to make the priestly garments. They also offer spices for the anointing oil and incense.
Moses tells the people that Bezalel, the son of Uri and grandson of Hur, of the tribe of Judah, is endowed with the wisdom and skill to complete the task. God has given him the ability to work with gold, silver, brass, and precious stones.
He has the knowledge and ability to carve wood and engrave medals. Bezalel is also able to teach others to do the same. Aholiab, the son of Ahisamach of the tribe of Dan, is an assistant to Bezalel and is skilled in engraving medals and carving wood and other materials.
Other men and women of skill and resourcefulness are also ready to contribute to the venture. Moses reminds the people that they are to give freely like those who bring gold offerings. The chapter talks of volunteers giving their talents, time, and resources to the task.
Exodus chapter 35 talks of Israelites’ willingness to complete the task of constructing the tabernacle. Although Moses reminds the people to keep the Sabbath day holy, they willingly give their resources and time to the task. Some people give gold, while others offer their skills.
This chapter is significant since it shows how Israelites respond to the message of Moses. They are willing participants and contributors to the venture. Moses conveys God’s message to people and reminds them of the Sabbath, the need to bring offerings, and the need for skilled workers.
Bezalel and Aholiab respond by telling Moses that he has brought the task to the right people and that they are ready to participate.
They do not hesitate to use their skills and resources to construct the tabernacle as God required. Moses tells them to begin the task that God requires them to complete.
The Israelites willingly give resources like gold, silver, and other materials to construct the tabernacle.
Some people offer their talents to make the curtains and hangings and to do the engraving tasks.
