What is the new covenant prophecy in Jeremiah 31?
Jeremiah 31:31 to 34 says, "The days are coming when I will make a new covenant with the people of Israel and with the people of Judah. It will not be like the covenant I made with their ancestors when I took them by the hand to lead them out of Egypt, because they broke my covenant." God promises four things. He will put His law in their minds and write it on their hearts. He will be their God and they will be His people. They will all know Him, from the least to the greatest, without needing to be taught. And He will forgive their wickedness and remember their sins no more. The old covenant had rules on stone. The new one changes hearts from the inside. At the Last Supper, Jesus took the cup and called it the new covenant in His blood. Hebrews 8 quotes the whole passage, the longest Old Testament quote in the New Testament.
