Bible Questions and Answer

Bethany was the home of Jesus' close friends Mary, Martha and Lazarus. On one visit, Martha was busy with preparations and complained that her sister Mary just sat at Jesus' feet listening. Jesus gently told her, "Mary has chosen what is better." Later, Lazarus got sick and died. When Jesus arrived four days after the burial, Martha met Him, and He said, "I am the resurrection and the life." She answered, "I believe that you are the Messiah, the Son of God." Jesus wept at the tomb and called Lazarus out alive. Many people believed, and the chief priests then made plans to kill Lazarus too, since so many were following Jesus because of him. Six days before Passover, at a dinner in Bethany, Mary poured expensive perfume on Jesus. Jesus stayed in Bethany during His final week. After His resurrection, He led His disciples out to the vicinity of Bethany, blessed them and was taken up into heaven.
