What does the raven represent in the Bible?
Ravens were unclean birds under the law of Moses, and they eat dead things. Yet God uses them in surprising ways. After the flood, Noah first sent out a raven, which flew back and forth until the water dried up. It didn't come back like the dove did, perhaps because it could live on what it found floating. Later, when Elijah hid by the brook Cherith during the drought, God sent ravens to bring him bread and meat morning and evening. An unclean scavenger became God's delivery service. Jesus pointed to ravens when teaching about worry. "Consider the ravens: they do not sow or reap, they have no storeroom or barn; yet God feeds them. And how much more valuable you are than birds!" Job and the Psalms also say God feeds the young ravens when they cry. So the raven reminds us that God cares for creatures people look down on.
