What does the golden lampstand or menorah represent?
The lampstand in the tabernacle was made from one piece of pure gold, shaped like an almond tree with seven branches. It gave light in the Holy Place, which had no windows, and the priests kept it burning with pure olive oil. So it means God's light and His presence among His people. The almond branches remind many readers of the tree of life. In Zechariah 4, the prophet sees a lampstand fed by two olive trees, and the message is, "Not by might nor by power, but by my Spirit." That links the oil and light to God's Spirit. In Revelation 1, Jesus stands among seven golden lampstands, and He explains that they are the seven churches. The church is supposed to be the light in the world, as Jesus said, "You are the light of the world." If a church stops loving, He warns He will remove its lampstand.
