What does it mean that God will wipe away every tear?
Revelation 21:4 is one of the most loved verses in the Bible. After describing the New Jerusalem coming down, a loud voice from the throne says, "He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away." The same promise appears in Revelation 7 and goes back to Isaiah 25:8: "The Sovereign LORD will wipe away the tears from all faces." It's a very personal picture. God doesn't just announce an end to sorrow. He wipes the tears Himself, like a parent comforting a child. The verse doesn't say we'll forget everything that hurt us. It says the pain will be healed and the causes of tears will be gone. People at funerals often hold on to this verse. It's God's answer to every grief, not a quick fix but a final, complete comfort.
