What do the walls of Jericho represent?

Jericho was the first city Israel faced in the Promised Land, and it had strong walls. God gave Joshua an odd battle plan. The army and priests carrying the ark were to march around the city once a day for six days, then seven times on the seventh day. Then the priests blew their trumpets, the people shouted and the walls fell flat. The story shows that the land was a gift from God, not something Israel won by its own strength. Hebrews 11 says, "By faith the walls of Jericho fell." Obeying a plan that looked silly took trust. The story also includes Rahab, a Canaanite woman who hid the spies. Her house on the wall was spared, and she later appears in Jesus' family tree. Today people talk about "Jericho walls" as problems that look impossible to get through, and they pray for God to knock them down.
