How did Ezekiel know the exact day Jerusalem's siege began?
Ezekiel lived among the exiles in Babylon, hundreds of miles from Jerusalem. In Ezekiel 24:1 and 2, he writes, "In the ninth year, in the tenth month on the tenth day, the word of the LORD came to me: 'Son of man, record this date, this very date, because the king of Babylon has laid siege to Jerusalem this very day.'" Without any messenger or news service, Ezekiel knew and wrote down the date. Second Kings 25:1 confirms the siege began "in the ninth year of Zedekiah's reign, on the tenth day of the tenth month." Jews still observe a fast day called the Tenth of Tevet to remember the start of that siege. The detail about recording the date was important. When news eventually reached the exiles, they could check Ezekiel's written record and see he had known it on the very day. It proved that Ezekiel's God saw everything, even across the desert, and his other prophecies deserved attention too.
