Zer was a fortified town in the territory of Naphtali, listed only in Joshua 19:35: "The fortified towns were Ziddim, Zer, Hammath, Rakkath, Kinnereth." So it was on or near the western shore of the Sea of Galilee. Its location is unknown. Some scholars think "Zer" is a copying error for "Zidon" or that "Ziddim" and "Zer" were originally one name, "Ziddim-zer." Others suggest a site near Hattin or Tiberias. Hammath, the hot springs, and Rakkath, Tiberias, were on the western shore, and Kinnereth was on the northwestern shore. The area has fertile plains and hills sloping down to the lake. The name may mean "rock" or "narrow." No events are recorded there. It's one of many small places known only from the tribal lists in Joshua.
