Secu, or Seku, was a place near Ramah, Samuel's hometown. When Saul was hunting David, he sent three groups of men to Naioth in Ramah, and each time they prophesied instead. "Finally, he himself left for Ramah and went to the great cistern at Seku. And he asked, 'Where are Samuel and David?'" (1 Samuel 19:22). He was told they were at Naioth, and on the way the Spirit of God came on him too. The "great cistern" or "well" suggests a large water supply near Ramah. Its location is unknown. The Greek Septuagint reads "the threshing floor on the bare hill," which may reflect a different text. Some scholars suggest a site near er-Ram or Nebi Samwil, depending on where Ramah was. The story shows God protecting David, even overcoming Saul himself.
