Mount Baalah was a hill on the northern border of Judah, west of Jerusalem. Joshua 15:11 says the border "went to the northern slope of Ekron, turned toward Shikkeron, passed along to Mount Baalah and reached Jabneel, ending at the sea." So it was in the coastal plain area between Ekron and Jabneel, near the Sorek Valley. It's different from the town of Baalah, another name for Kiriath-jearim, mentioned earlier in the same chapter. Many scholars identify Mount Baalah with the ridge of el-Mughar or a low range of hills near Yavne, the Mughar ridge, north of the Sorek Valley. The area is part of the fertile coastal plain, crossed by roads between the Philistine cities and the hill country. The name suggests a place once connected with the worship of Baal. No events are recorded there.
