In Judges 11:33, Jephthah "devastated twenty towns from Aroer to the vicinity of Minnith, as far as Abel Keramim." Ezekiel 27:17 says, "Judah and Israel traded with you; they exchanged wheat from Minnith and confections, honey, olive oil and balm for your wares," listing Minnith's wheat as a famous product sold to Tyre. So the area around Minnith was good grain-growing land. Its location is unknown, but it was probably on the plateau near Heshbon or Rabbah, modern Amman. The early church writer Eusebius mentioned a village called Maanith four Roman miles from Heshbon, on the road to Rabbah, which may be the same place. The plateau east of the Jordan was fertile, with enough rain for wheat and barley, and grain was one of the main exports of the region.
