Manahath appears in 1 Chronicles 8:6, in the family records of Benjamin: "These were the descendants of Ehud, who were heads of families of those living in Geba and were deported to Manahath." The context doesn't explain why or when they were moved. Many scholars identify Manahath with Malha, an area in southwestern Jerusalem, where excavations found a village from the Middle Bronze Age. Today it's a Jerusalem neighborhood, known for its shopping mall and sports stadium. First Chronicles 2 also mentions the "Manahathites" among the descendants of Caleb, connected with Bethlehem, which fits a location southwest of Jerusalem, between Jerusalem and Bethlehem. The area is hilly, with valleys and springs, on the edge of the territory of Judah and Benjamin. The name may mean "resting place." Few details are known about the town's history.
