Each district governor supplied food for the royal household for one month a year. This district covered the northern Shephelah and the lowlands west of Jerusalem, the land originally given to the tribe of Dan, around the Aijalon and Sorek valleys. It was fertile farmland producing grain, olive oil and wine. Makaz's exact location is unknown. Some scholars suggest Khirbet el-Mukheizin, near Ekron, or a site near Beth-shemesh, but there's no firm evidence. No other events are recorded there, and it appears nowhere else in the Bible. The list of Solomon's districts shows a well-organized kingdom that drew on the resources of every region, including towns that had once been Canaanite.
