This Jarmuth was a Levitical town in the territory of Issachar, given to the Gershonites, listed in Joshua 21:29 with En-gannim. The parallel list in 1 Chronicles 6:73 has Ramoth, and Issachar's town list has Remeth (Joshua 19:21), so they're probably the same place. It was in the eastern part of Issachar's land, perhaps on the heights west of the Jordan Valley, south of the Sea of Galilee. A stone monument of Pharaoh Seti I, found at Beth-shean, mentions fighting on "Mount Yarmuta," which some connect with this town. Its exact location is uncertain. Some suggest Kokab el-Hawa, where the Crusader castle of Belvoir now stands, overlooking the Jordan Valley. Others suggest a site near Mount Tabor. The area has fertile basalt soil and steep slopes descending to the Jordan. No events are recorded there.
