Dimnah was a Levitical town in the territory of Zebulun, given to the Merarite Levites (Joshua 21:35). The parallel list in 1 Chronicles 6:77 has Rimmono instead, and since the Hebrew letters d and r look very similar, many scholars think Dimnah is a copying error for Rimmon, a town of Zebulun (Joshua 19:13). Rimmon is identified with the village of Rummaneh, about six miles (10 km) north of Nazareth, on the edge of the Beit Netofa Valley in Lower Galilee. The valley is a broad, fertile plain surrounded by hills, where grain was grown, and the area is near important ancient towns like Sepphoris and Cana. The name Rimmon means "pomegranate." No events are recorded at Dimnah. It's a good example of how small copying differences in the Levitical town lists can be explained by comparing Joshua with Chronicles.
