Balah was a town given to the tribe of Simeon, listed in Joshua 19:3 with Hazar Shual and Ezem. It's the same as Baalah in Judah's list (Joshua 15:29) and Bilhah in 1 Chronicles 4:29. Simeon didn't receive a separate region of its own. Instead, "the inheritance of the Simeonites was taken from the share of Judah, because Judah's portion was more than they needed" (Joshua 19:9). So Simeon's towns were scattered in the southern part of Judah's land, in the Negev around Beersheba. The land there is dry and semi-desert, with winter rains that allow some grain farming. Over time, Simeon lost its separate identity and was absorbed into Judah. Balah's exact location is unknown. Scholars have suggested sites near Beersheba, but none is certain. No events are recorded there.
