Numbers 34:4-5 says the border went through Hazar-addar "and over to Azmon, where it will turn, join the Wadi of Egypt and end at the Mediterranean Sea." Joshua 15:4 describes Judah's boundary the same way. So Azmon was west of Kadesh Barnea, where the border turned northwest to follow the Wadi of Egypt, probably Wadi el-Arish in northern Sinai, to the sea. The area is dry desert and steppe, with a few springs that made oases important markers. Suggested locations include Ain Muweilih and Qasr Ruheibeh, near the Kadesh Barnea springs, or Ain el-Qoseimeh, but none is certain. No events are recorded there. It helped define the ideal southern limit of the land God promised, running from the southern end of the Dead Sea west to the Mediterranean.
