Alush was one of Israel's campsites in the Sinai desert, listed only in Numbers 33:13-14, between Dophkah and Rephidim. It came after the Desert of Sin, where the manna and quail began, and just before Rephidim, where there was no water, Moses struck the rock and Israel fought the Amalekites. So Alush was in the southwestern Sinai, a region of sandy valleys and granite mountains, if the traditional route to Jebel Musa is right. Its location is unknown. Some scholars have suggested Wadi el-Esh, but that's only a guess. Later Jewish tradition, in a work called Seder Olam, claimed that the Israelites first kept the Sabbath at Alush, since the manna story with its Sabbath rule comes right before it in Exodus. The Bible itself records no events at Alush. It's one of the stops that show Israel's slow journey from one water source to the next toward Mount Sinai.
