It's listed with Gibeon, Geba and Anathoth. First Chronicles 6:60 calls it Alemeth. It's identified with Khirbet Almit, about a mile northeast of Anathoth and a few miles northeast of Jerusalem. The site is on a ridge at the edge of the hill country, where the land drops east toward the Judean wilderness and the Jordan Valley. That made it a place where farming and herding met. Because Almon and Anathoth were priestly towns close to Jerusalem, priests could live there and travel to serve at the temple in their rotations. Jeremiah, from a priestly family of Anathoth, came from this same small cluster of towns. Surveys have found Iron Age pottery at the site, fitting its use in the time of Israel's kings.
