Addar was a point on the southern border of Judah, listed in Joshua 15:3: the border went "past Hezron up to Addar and curved around to Karka." Numbers 34:4 calls it Hazar-addar, "the village of Addar," in its description of Canaan's southern border near Kadesh Barnea. This was the edge of the Negev and northern Sinai, a dry area of hills and wadis with scattered springs. Travelers and herders depended on the few water sources, so border points were often named after wells and settlements. The exact site is unknown. Scholars have suggested it was near the springs of the Kadesh Barnea area, such as Ain Qedeis or Ain Qudeirat, or a nearby site. There's no record of events there. It mattered because it helped define the ideal southern limit of the Promised Land, which ran from the southern end of the Dead Sea west to the Wadi of Egypt.
